Googling your own name. Nobody wants to admit they do it, but they sure do. And, might I add, it’s darn fun. Kind of like fishing… it’s not fun to do all the time, but every once in a while you can reel in some good stuff, or some old stuff that brings back some memories.
An LA Times reporter was in town for the past couple of days working on a story about UT’s chancellor, Mark Yudof, who was just named head of the University of California System. We were a bit jealous that this reporter got a 3-hour interview with the chancellor when the DT, the paper of the school Yudof represents, has been trying to get just a 15 minute interview… please, Mr. Yudof? Anyhoo, the reporter came by the Texan office and I showed him to our archive and library of back issues so he could do a little research the night before his interview. I also did a short interview on the phone with the reporter yesterday, so I got on the Web this morning to see if I could find his story and also see if I was quoted.
Googling my name and la times together brought up some stuff I hadn’t seen before about myself. I got completely sidetracked, losing about an hour of my Friday to Googling my name. There were some interesting catches, though, that I’ll share and save below
… PBS? Very cool. A story I wrote in 2005 about profiling Sarah Weddington’s experience being one of the first female lawyers to argue and win a monumental court case, and also touching on some current challenges to Roe v. Wade. One of my most enjoyable pieces to write. Thanks Google, for bringing back the memory of a wonderful interview with Mrs. Weddington in her Austin office. What an inspiration she is: http://www.pbs.org/weta/washingtonweek/voices/200510/1011nat1.htm
… Wow, a photo essay in The Fugitive Post that I did in 2006. I had no idea these would still be up, since that paper is no longer… again, lovely, lovely memories… http://thefugitivepost.com/files/TFP_07_14_06_FINAL_for_web.pdf
